Attendance
Attendance Overview for Parents and Carers
At Holy Trinity CE Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child attends school regularly and on time. Excellent attendance supports children’s learning, well-being, friendships, and future success. We work in partnership with parents and carers to promote high levels of attendance for all pupils.
Our expectations
All pupils are expected to attend school every day, unless they are unwell or there is an exceptional circumstance. Our school attendance target is at least 96 percent for every child.
Children should arrive on time each morning, ready to learn. Good punctuality helps children settle quickly and ensures they do not miss important learning at the start of the day.
Reporting an absence
If your child is unable to attend school, you must inform the school as soon as possible on the first day of absence. Please contact the school office by telephone or email before the start of the school day and provide a clear reason for the absence.
If we do not receive a reason, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised.
We may request medical evidence for absences where appropriate, especially if there are frequent or prolonged absences.
Medical appointments
Where possible, medical and dental appointments should be arranged outside school hours. If this is not possible, please inform the school in advance and provide evidence of the appointment. Your child should attend school before and after the appointment wherever possible.
Holidays during term time
The Department for Education does not allow holidays to be taken during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Requests for leave must be made in advance using the school’s leave request form. Requests will be considered carefully, but holidays are not routinely authorised.
Unauthorised leave may result in a penalty notice issued by the Local Authority.
Punctuality
Being on time is very important. Children who arrive late can feel unsettled and miss valuable learning. The school day begins promptly, and registers are taken at the start of the morning and afternoon sessions.
Persistent lateness may be recorded and followed up by the school.
How we support good attendance
We monitor attendance regularly and will contact parents if we have concerns. Our aim is to work supportively with families to improve attendance. We can offer guidance, support, and signposting where attendance is affected by health, emotional, or family circumstances.
Working together
Parents and carers have a legal responsibility to ensure their child attends school regularly. By working together, we can ensure every child has the best possible opportunity to thrive, achieve, and feel part of our school community.
Please take the time to read our Attendance Policy so we can work together to support your child.
If you have any attendance enquiries, please contact the school office or email attendance@holytrinity.staffs.sch.uk. We are here to help and support you.
