Personal, Social and Health Education

At Holy Trinity Primary School we aim to promote healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We encourage all our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community through school councils, fundraising events, supporting nominated charities and involvement in community activities. Our pupils are given opportunities in PSHE & C, SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) lessons and assemblies to develop confidence, self-motivation and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within our diverse society.

We teach PSHE & C in a variety of ways: as a discrete subject, through the Entrust curriculum, supplemented by SEAL lessons and the PSHE association, via assemblies and through other subjects such as Computing (Online Safety), RE, History, Geography, English, Maths and Science, as well as through outdoor educational visits, community work and activities. The Golden Threads that run through each of our PSHE topics are relationships, health and well-being and living in the wider world. Through these strands the children are encouraged to ask ‘big questions’ to explore the different areas below.

Our Entrust curriculum is split into six different modules. These are:

To link with our PSHE learning, we also use the programme ‘myHappymind’ which supports the children’s learning about mental health and well-being and introduces a new set of content and habits to help children to build resilience, self-esteem and confidence. Consultation with parents

From September 2020, all primary schools are required by the government to teach Relationships and Health Education. Our PSHE, including our RSE curriculum, was updated during 2020 in line with this. Due to the nature of lockdown, the way parents were consulted were via letter and they were given the opportunity to ask questions and look at resources where needed.

For each year after this, parents receive a letter at the start of a new academic year (see below) to explain what their children will be learning about throughout the year and this gives parents the opportunity to ask questions about the curriculum and look at resources.

During June, parents are also given more information about the upcoming modules their children will be learning about and this gives them another opportunity to ask questions should they wish to. Parents of children in Year 6 are also given extra information and guidance about the Sex Education curriculum that we offer in school and rights to withdraw if needed.
